You want to feel carefree and secure in who you are, but you constantly feel like you have to be on guard.

  • At a family gathering someone makes a “harmless” joke about your hair or skin tone, and you freeze. You laugh it off, but your chest tightens. You spend the rest of the night replaying it and wondering if you should’ve said something.

  • You go on a date and they say, “but you don’t really look Filipino” and it just makes you want to give up, delete the apps, and crawl into a cave.

  • You’re hypervigilant about how much space you’re taking up as someone in the diaspora and worry it’s too “woe is me” to talk with others about how much pain you’ve been in since the start of the Genocide in Palestine.

  • You want to learn your Tagalog so you can connect with your extended family more easily but you’re worried that you’re not entitled to it

  • You see an invite for an event and it says "An event for Latina women only" and you wonder if you should go or if people will look at you weird and wonder why you're there....

You learned to earn belonging by being agreeable, helpful, or invisible — by reading the room and giving others what they want. You’ve built up armor to feel safe, protect yourself from rejection, misunderstanding, and microaggressions, but it’s only making you feel more alone.

You’re fixated on the beliefs that you’re not “enough” of your identities and that you don’t fit in anywhere. But you don’t need to be one thing to feel whole and you don’t need to “fit in” to find belonging.

Thinking there is only one right way to live out your identity is a colonial mindset that only serves to uphold the systems of oppression making you feel so shitty in the first place.

That frame of reference is keeping you in your head…but you need to get into your body.

With a somatic approach, you can build an embodied sense of self-trust and resilience so that you can allow yourself to be seen for all of who you are.

You will find belonging when you start to own every layer of who you are unapologetically, audaciously, and without any fucks given for colonial racialized categories.

When you make this shift:

  • You’ll see your mixedness, other layers of your identities, and your ability to hold multiple truths as a source of wisdom, not confusion.

  • You’ll feel resilient in the face of off color comments, and be able to shake off what’s not yours to carry.

  • You’ll feel confident to share your story instead of feeling like it’s too complicated or confusing for people.

  • You’ll be able to walk into any room and actually enjoy connecting with new people instead of scanning the room for side-eyes and snickering.

And you’ll feel emboldened to take more risks in alignment with what you long for, to see everything in your life and relationships as a playful experiment, a light-hearted investigation into how to feel more connected to yourself and others. You’ll no longer find yourself waiting on the sidelines to get called in - you’ll feel capable of taking initiative to get out there and trust that you belong in any space you enter.

I'm SO ready for this!

Introducing Bold Belonging - my 1:1 somatic coaching experience for mixed race people.

Bold Belonging is for the people who are asking themselves:

How do I find a sense of wholeness and belonging when I feel like I’m not enough and I don’t fit in anywhere?

Inside Bold Belonging you’ll identify and accomplish a personal belonging project without feeling held back by your fears, insecurities, or what other people think.

That project could be:

  • Exploring an ancestral spiritual tradition

  • Engaging in genealogy research

  • Gaining confidence to put yourself in monoracial spaces

  • Organizing a multiracial affinity space at your company

  • Organize a politicized gathering in your community

  • Making new, aligned friends

  • Showing up more authentically in your existing relationships

  • Getting out on the dating scene

  • Hosting a mixed race meet up in your city

  • Or anything else that feels challenging, but ignites your spirit!

We’ll use this project to anchor our time, and it will be a portal into embodying the courage, confidence, and compassion you need to cultivate both inner and outer belonging.

How we’ll take you from holding back to boldly belonging:

My program is rooted in three key transformations:

Transform feeling fragmented to an unapologetic sense of wholeness

We’ll deepen your relationship with your body, and all the different parts of your identity and personality. You’ll come to feel secure in yourself and embrace yourself as a layered, perfectly multiplicitous being.

Transform questioning into self-trust

We’ll work to get unstuck from confusion and binary thinking traps and dream big to identify what you really long for. You’ll cultivate a sense of self-trust to handle any situation that comes your way.

Transform fear into resilience

You’ll learn how to support your nervous system with somatic practices when you feel anxious or overwhelmed and cultivate rituals for tending to grief. You’ll feel prepared to experiment and take bold risks in service of your goals.

Inside Bold Belonging you’ll get:

Immediate Access to the Inside Out Resource Library:
You’ll get access to a library of videos on somatics, nervous system education, and relationships so you can develop your own ‘I got this’ kit for avoiding spirals, staying grounded, and building your resilience - now and for years to come.

16 Deep Dive Calls:

This is where we do the work of processing real-life challenges you’re dealing with (emotions, relationships, other situations). We’ll deepen your relationship with yourself, problem solve, and practice new skills. You’ll walk away from each session feeling more clear, less anxious, and inspired.

Oh Shit Support:

Between calls, I’m available by voice memo for pep talks and brief brainstorming so that you can feel super held throughout this process.

Lifetime Access to my Practice + Connect Space:

The party doesn’t end after our 16 sessions together - I hold space every-other-month for all current and former participants of my 1:1 and group programs to gather, connect, and freshen up on your somatic skills.

Hi, I’m Raina.

As a mixed person (my ancestors called Africa, western Europe, and west Asia home) who grew up in a deeply segregated town, belonging has always been the theme of my life. I struggled with feeling like I wasn’t Black enough to fit in at my majority Black schools, but I also knew I didn’t look white or asian, and that left me feeling like I was constantly falling through a spiraling void.

Somatics has been a part of my personal and professional life for a long time and has helped me feel safer in my body, safer with myself, more comfortable with discomfort, and more alive.

I bring nearly a decade of experience as a somatic-oriented trauma therapist, 15 years as a yoga teacher, and even more as a community health educator. I blend all that expertise with my lived experience as a fellow mixed kid who understands the real pain that comes from being in-between cultures, feeling like an outsider, and enduring microaggressions, othering, and flat out rejection.

I created this offer because what helped me find an unwavering sense of belonging was deepening my relationship with myself (mind and body) and taking bold, audacious risks in service of the connections I wanted - in my personal relationships, romantic ones, and in my work.

I’ve helped dozens of mixed folks just like you and can’t wait to help you too!

Let's work together

From feeling triggered & overcompensating to feeling whole & authentic in any room

Kat came to me struggling deeply with a sense of belonging. They were jealous of friends who shared cultural identities and felt insecure about what others thought of them as a mixed race Black person. Whenever they felt misunderstood, they would feel physically sick. Their goal was to feel more secure in their relationships and more confident in their Blackness.

Inside 1:1 coaching with me, we work on coping with the physical and emotional feelings that arise when you are triggered using somatic skills. By doing this, you’ll be able to handle triggers with curiosity instead of shame, find your center instead of succumbing to an anxiety spiral, and interact with others without shrinking yourself or feeling like you have to prove yourself.

When Kat worked on this, they gained confidence to enter Black-centered spaces and show up as their authentic self. Since then, they’ve developed new relationships that feel really good to them

Real Results

From frazzled hermit to making new connections without burning out her nervous system

Lily was struggling to manage her anxiety and felt her nervous system was always on high alert. She cared deeply about social justice, but would often overextend, burnout, and retreat. As a result, she had become quite the hermit as a means to protect her energy.

In Bold Belonging, you’ll see there’s no need to push past your limits in order to earn belonging or atone for your privilege. Instead, we’ll work on befriending the parts of you who have internalized beliefs about how you “should” show up in the world as a mixed race person, and find a way to do so in a way that helps you feel alive with direction and purpose AND stay connected to your own needs.

Doing this work, Lily was able to feel more safe in her body, she was able to enjoy making connections with others, and she figured out how she wanted to show up in social justice work in a way that felt sustainable for her.

Here’s what to expect during your first 30 days:

Session One: Uncover your belonging story — so we can write a new chapter

This will be your space to share your story in your words. The ups and downs, beliefs, and blocks that you feel are keeping you from showing up and deeply connecting to who you are. We'll explore what feels easy and what feels sticky, and what you want to feel like or have at the end of our time together. You’ll leave feeling inspired and with at least a few options for your belonging project.

Session Two: Complete your Strengths & Supports Assessment:

In session two we’ll outline your existing sources of support and inspiration and build a tool you can reference when you need a boost - whether that be an altar or a vision board or another reflection tool (I have a few up my sleeve!)

Session Three: Solidify your Bold Belonging Project:

In this call, we’ll finalize your belonging project and begin working on whatever needs attention - inside and outside - in order to make it happen.

Session Four: Build Your I Got This Kit:

We’ll identify what kinds of practices will help you regulate yourself, what kind of resources you need to call on, and what gaps we’ll need to fill as we continue working together.

You’ll wrap up our first month with a solid understanding of how you got here, a clear vision of your goals, and a set of tools that will continue to grow and evolve throughout the course of our work together.

I'm ready to be held through this process

Bold Belonging is designed to support all kinds of mixed people. This program is for you if…

You’re an introvert

Samesies - I’ll help you find a sustainable way to work toward your belonging project without burning out your social battery.

You’re multiracial OR multicultural

I admit the term ‘mixed race’ is limiting because mixedness includes not just race, but culture, language, religion, and more. I welcome multicultural/multiethnic people into Bold Belonging.

You can’t identify my feelings in your body

You’re in the right place - I’ll help you build the skills to identify what you’re feeling in a way that feels manageable and supportive. My expertise and the tools we’ll use will help you go from “I don’t know” to “I think I’m feeling this…” to naming emotions and sensations without a problem.

You hold multiple (marginalized) identities, like being queer, neurodivergent, disabled, or an immigrant

I am a queer, disabled, neurodivergent person and this approach has been instrumental to finding peace with my body and all the ways I feel “different.” Most of my clients hold multiple marginalized identities. This could be an important aspect to what you choose for your belonging project.

You live in a place without community or outside the U.S. or in a place where your identity feels even more complicated

This will be perfect for you because we can really get in the weeds about being mixed abroad and all the complexity that brings. The complexities of your unique situation makes this work even more important, in my opinion. We can identify a belonging project that feels supportive and realistic.

You didn’t grow up around people who share your background

Bold Belonging will be perfect for you, because we’ll process how that experience felt for you, what needs went unmet, and your feelings about your entitlement to certain identities. There is no prerequisite around this for participating.

You’re “only a quarter X”

There is no threshold of mixed or POC enough to work with me. If my work resonates with you, please schedule a sales call!

You’re parenting

Our work together will help you show up for your kids the way you wished your parents might have shown up for you as a mixed kid. In fact, parenting could be part of your belonging project

You’re religious, spiritual, OR not spiritual at all

This program is designed to meet you where you’re at. If religion and spirituality is a part of your life already, great! We can use that as a resource in our work together. If you’re not spiritual at all, that’s fine. We can either work on deepening your spirituality OR work with other resources that fit your perspective.
